Bagnaia won the Sachsenring race after the leader Martin crashed with two laps to go. He was caught on the podium by Marc Márquez and his brother Alex.
Jorge Martin, Miguel Olieira and Raul Fernandez were on the front row for the MotoGP German Grand Prix this year.
After the start Martin held the first place. Oliveira remained second. Bagnaia moved up to third. Alex Márquez moved up to fourth. Raul Fernandez dropped to seventh after starting from the front row during the first lap.
With twenty-eight laps to go, Bagnaia moved into first place. Martin dropped to second. Morbidelli worked his way up to third behind his teammate Martin. Oliveira and Alex Márquez battled for fourth.
Martin took the lead back on lap seven, while Viñales went off the track and his sixth position was taken by Marc Márquez.
With twenty-two circuits to go, Martin continued in first place. Morbidelli moved into second position ahead of Bagnaiu. Just behind Bagnaio were Alex Márquez and Oliveira. Marc Márquez was also closing fast.
In the next phase, however, Morbidelli began to slump. The Márquez brothers went ahead in turn. There was contact between Morbidelli and Marc Márquez, but no one was penalized.
On the penultimate lap, Martin, the leader, surprisingly fell, so Bagnaia took the first place. Shortly before the finish line, there was also an exchange of positions between the Márquez brothers. The elder Marc overtook Alex to take second place.
The final order in the top five was Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, Alex Marquez, Enea Bastianini, Franco Morbidelli.
With the win, Bagnaia moved to the top of the championship.
